Ready to Join LMT? Here are some interview tips
READY TO JOIN LMT?
LMT is always looking for the best candidates for the right career opportunities. Just as we set up all of our new employees for success, we like to help our candidates be successful as well. We know the interview process can be a daunting task and our Staffing Department is here to assist you along the way. Instead of making you guess what we are looking for, we want to give you some tips and suggestions to help get you started with the process. You see, our commitment to employees starts well before the onboarding process. Our commitment starts from the day you apply.
WE WANT YOU TO EXCEL
LMT's commitment to employees starts from the day you apply--helping applicants navigate the application. At LMT, everyone has the opportunity and the support they need to succeed. We believe that career development is a shared commitment between employees and the organization. This starts with the initial candidate experience and lasts through the life span as an LMT employee. Our talent management ideals help employees set goals, build functional and leadership competencies, and track progress along the way.
COVER LETTERS AND RESUMES
Before any job interview, applicants must submit a cover letter and resume online through the LMT applicant tracking system. Given the volume of applications LMT receives, it’s important to stand out and highlight skills through a compelling and convincing cover letter and resume package.
Cover letters should concisely showcase why you are the right person for the job. Aim for one page that opens with a value-packed statement of how you are the solution to an LMT vacancy.
Tailor cover letters to the specific job application. Use spell check. Everyone makes mistakes.
Resumes must highlight value, relevant achievements, skills and experience. Have a career summary at the beginning of the resume.
There is no need for a career objective because the objective is to get this job. Instead, summarize who you are and what skills you have.
Include the right keywords.
Be sure to include specific points in the job description. Applying for a job as an Accountant and the job description requires experience with Deltek Costpoint? Put the exact phase ‘Deltek Costpoint’ in your resume if you meet that requirement.
When listing work experience and achievements, be honest and complete your resume to cover the following:
- List most recent work experience first.
- Describe experience in easy-to- understand bullet points.
- Highlight the general responsibilities of your role, achievements, plus the skills required.
- Assign numbers to your accomplishments to translate the value you can add to the organization. For example, instead of “Team Leader for new product development,” say “led 10-person team for new product development resulting in sales of $6M in the last 24 months.”
- List details of education and certifications and technology skills.
THE INTERVIEW PROCESS
Resumes are reviewed within 48 hours of submission. If your skills are a match, a recruiter will contact you to discuss the role and further explore the potential fit with LMT, and set up an interview.
To excel in your in-person interview, a recruiter will help you understand our organization, corporate culture, mission, and core values.
The in-person interview helps to further evaluate your skills, logic, and background. Expect to meet with several LMT team members across the organization who can provide multiple perspectives.
LMT utilizes behavioral interviews to understand an applicant’s background and to enable an applicant to best highlight their expertise. In a behavioral interview, look to speak about past experiences and relate them to LMT’s current needs.
When answering background questions, consider describing situations or tasks you needed to accomplish. Describe the action you took and the results achieved. Showcase a pattern of success or analytical thinking across various positions, utilizing recent examples.
